Description
A golden plush teddy bear and an amber glass candle in a gift box. No flowers. That is the product. The bear is soft, holds itself upright, and has the kind of face that makes grown adults smile before they can stop themselves. The candle is the same 200-gram hand-poured soy candle from the candle collection, with a white label carrying a message of your choice. Four scent options: vanilla, coconut, lavender, and frangipani. The pink heart on the product image is the background graphic. What arrives is the bear and the candle, boxed together with ribbon.
$40.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Ubud, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran. Plush teddy bear, organic soy candle, your custom label message, gift boxed with ribbon.
Why No Flowers
Some recipients are not flower people. This is a sentence that flower shops hate to write but it is true and pretending otherwise loses sales. A percentage of the people someone might send a gift to in Bali will not get excited about roses or arrangements or tropical bouquets. They will smile politely, put the vase somewhere, and that is it. For those recipients, a teddy bear and a candle land differently. The bear is tactile. The candle has a scent and a message. Neither requires water or care or a spot with the right amount of light. Neither wilts.
The other reason: some senders have already sent flowers. The birthday was covered by a bouquet. The anniversary had roses. Now a second occasion has come up during the same trip, or the sender wants to add something on a different day as a surprise, and sending flowers again feels repetitive. A bear and a candle is a different category of gift entirely. It says "I am still thinking about you" without repeating the gesture.
A WhatsApp at 3am
Wayan showed me the phone at breakfast. A message had come in at 3:14am Bali time from a man in Dublin. His girlfriend was in a villa in Uluwatu with three friends. He had already sent roses on the first day. That was four days ago. Her birthday was tomorrow and he wanted something different. He wrote: "not flowers this time, she will think I only know how to do one thing."
He found the Teddy and Candle Package at some point between midnight and 3am Dublin time and messaged asking if the bear was as big as it looked in the photo. I replied in the morning and told him the bear is a generous size, not a keychain teddy, not a metre-tall carnival prize. A proper cuddly bear that an adult would keep on a bed or a couch and not feel embarrassed about. He chose vanilla for the candle and typed a custom label: "Happy birthday gorgeous. I know I already sent flowers. This is the backup plan and the backup plan has a face." Kadek delivered to the Uluwatu villa by midday. The girlfriend sent him a video. She was holding the bear under one arm and reading the candle label to her friends. All four of them were laughing. He forwarded the video to me with "money well spent."
When I first bundled the bear with a candle instead of with flowers, my concern was that it would look cheap. A bear and a candle at $40 with no flowers in the box. I nearly priced it at $35 and then stopped. The maths did not change. The bear and the candle cost what they cost. But I hesitated because I was thinking about it from the wrong direction. I was comparing it to a $45 rose bunch plus a $15 candle, which totals $60, and thinking the customer would too. They do not. They compare it to how the gift makes the recipient feel. And what I have noticed over the past three years of selling this package is that the reaction photos from this product are louder than the reaction photos from most flower deliveries. The bear gets picked up immediately. The candle gets read immediately. Flowers get admired from a distance. This package gets handled. Touched. Laughed at. Read out loud to whoever is in the room. That contact changes the emotional register of the gift. The $40 price tag disappears behind the reaction.
What the Bear Actually Is
Classic golden-brown plush. Soft fur, not scratchy. Stays upright without support. The face has a particular expression that lands somewhere between friendly and slightly dopey, which matters more than it sounds. A bear that looks too polished reads as corporate. A bear that looks too cheap reads as afterthought. This one reads as loveable. It is the kind of bear that a thirty-year-old will tuck into their suitcase and take home. I know this because customers have told me they did exactly that. One woman packed the bear between her clothes on the flight from Denpasar to Seoul and sent me a photo of it on her apartment shelf three weeks later.
The bear does not come with the candle strapped to it or attached to it. They arrive in the same gift box, side by side. The candle rests next to the bear, not on top of it or tied to its hand. The presentation is clean. Box, ribbon, bear, candle, done.
The Candle Half
Full details on each scent are on the individual candle pages. Short version: vanilla is the universal safe pick and the bestseller. Coconut is the holiday scent that peaks in peak season. Lavender is the functional choice for people who want calm. Frangipani is the Bali-specific scent that gets reordered from overseas. All four are 200-gram hand-poured soy wax in amber glass jars with a custom label option.
The label options are the same as the standalone candles. Pre-set messages or type your own. Custom messages are the most popular choice. The label is printed on matte white stock and applied to the jar. It looks professional, not handwritten. When someone opens the box, they see the bear first and the candle second. Then they read the label. The label is usually the moment that gets the strongest reaction because it carries the personal message the sender chose.
Who Orders This
Three groups and the overlap between them is smaller than you would think.
The first: people who have already sent flowers on this trip and need a second gift. The Dublin boyfriend. The mother who sent a flower arrangement on day one and wants something for a mid-trip birthday. The best friend who covered the birthday with a bouquet and now wants to send a surprise for the last night.
The second: people sending to someone who does not like flowers. They exist. Pretending they do not exist costs sales. For this group the bear-and-candle combination solves a problem that the rest of the flower catalogue cannot. It is a complete gift that requires no interest in floristry whatsoever.
The third: children. Not children ordering. Adults ordering for children. A daughter turning eight in a resort in Nusa Dua. A niece staying with family in a villa in Sanur. You would not send a child a candle by itself and you would not send most children flowers. But a teddy bear with a candle for the room creates a gift that the child connects with physically and that the parents appreciate because the candle makes the villa smell good. The bear is for the child. The candle is for the room. Both end up being for everybody.
The scent choice changes depending on the buyer group and I can usually tell which group someone belongs to from the combination they pick. Group one, the "already sent flowers" senders, almost always choose vanilla because they have already made the bold gesture with the flowers and they want the candle to be warm and safe. Group two, the "not a flower person" senders, split between coconut and frangipani because they lean toward scents with personality. Group three, the children's gift senders, pick coconut about seventy percent of the time because adults assume children like sweet, tropical things. The interesting exception is lavender. Nobody chooses lavender for a child. But lavender outsells vanilla in the "not a flower person" group because the people who do not like flowers tend to be practical, and lavender is the practical candle. I have never run a formal analysis on this. It is a pattern from three years of watching the orders come through. If someone asked me to guess the recipient from the scent choice alone, I would be right more often than chance.
Price and Value
$40 for a bear and a candle. The standalone candle is $15. The bear is not sold separately. The 1 Rose and Teddy Bear is $35. The 3 Roses Teddy Bear is $41. This package removes the flower component and replaces it with the candle. For someone deciding between this and a rose-plus-bear option, the question is whether the recipient would prefer a candle with a personal message or flowers. Flowers are visual. The candle is olfactory and personal. Both are valid. One is not better than the other. They serve different moments.
For a bigger gift, the Bali Bliss Package adds flowers to the candle-and-extras combination. The hamper collection adds wine, chocolates, and spa products for a full luxury box. The gifts collection has everything from single bears to complete gift sets. Browse the full flower catalogue or the candle range to build your own combination.
How This Product Got Built
The bear-and-candle combination did not exist until 2019. Before that, teddy bears only shipped alongside flowers. Every bear product included roses. A customer in the shop on Jl. Camplung Tanduk asked if she could buy just the bear and a candle without any flowers. Her friend was allergic. Not mildly sensitive. Actually allergic. Roses, lilies, anything with heavy pollen. Sending flowers was not thoughtful. It was a medical problem waiting to happen in a small villa bedroom. She wanted a gift that smelled good and felt personal without any plant material in the box.
I paired the bear with a vanilla candle, wrapped it in a gift box, and charged her what felt right. She ordered two more by the end of the week for different friends. That was enough signal. I added the product to the website the following month. Forty-sixth most popular product across all of Bali over the past twelve months. Not the highest seller but one of the most consistent. It does not spike on Valentine's Day or Mother's Day the way flower products do. It sells steadily all year because the occasions it serves are not calendar-dependent.
