The Anniversary at Munduk

A couple from the Netherlands called last year, celebrating their 20th anniversary at a villa in Munduk which is properly up in the Tabanan highlands. They wanted flowers delivered on the actual day with champagne, the whole romantic setup. I was nervous about the timing because Munduk is remote, even by Bali standards.

Kadek left early morning with the flowers and sparkling wine, drove for over an hour, got lost twice trying to find their villa down unmarked dirt roads. He called me stressed, I talked him through staying calm, eventually he found it. The couple were lovely apparently, invited him in for coffee which he politely declined because he had other deliveries. They sent us the most beautiful email later, photos of the flowers on their villa balcony with the rice terraces behind them, said the delivery made their anniversary perfect despite being so far from home.

The challenge with Tabanan is finding places. Google Maps gives up halfway there sometimes, phone signals are spotty, you need patience and good navigation instincts. Kadek has both thankfully.

Someone from Singapore sent flowers to their parents staying near Tanah Lot temple last month, their 35th anniversary. The parents were on a spiritual trip, visiting temples, reconnecting with each other. The flowers were just meant to say "we're proud of you, we love you" from overseas.

Kadek delivered them early evening, caught them right before they left for dinner. The father answered the door, got emotional seeing flowers from their kids, called them immediately.
