Description
Sunny is the namesake arrangement. It carries the shop's name because it contains more flower types and more colour than anything else we build. Heliconia at the peak. White lilies and gerberas in the centre. Pink anthurium and pink gerbera on one side. Purple orchids on the other. Red carnations scattered through the body. White roses and white chrysanthemums filling the gaps. Tropical foliage from the base to the top. Eight or nine flower types in one triangular arrangement.

What's Inside
Two or three upright heliconia stems sit at the top. These are the lobster-claw type, red-orange bracts with yellow-green edges, pointing upward. They set the height of the arrangement and give Sunny its tropical peak. Dark green blade leaves rise among the heliconia.
Below the heliconia, the arrangement opens into a dense middle section. One or two white oriental lilies sit at the focal point, large open blooms with a fragrance that fills a room within an hour. A white gerbera with a pale green centre sits at the front. A pink gerbera sits lower left, softer and warmer against the white. One white or cream rose, partially open, holds space beside the lily. White spray chrysanthemums fill through the upper body in small clusters.
On the left side, one or two pink-red anthuriums angle outward, heart-shaped spathes with a waxy surface. On the right, purple dendrobium orchid sprays cascade down with two or three blooms per spray. Two or three red cerise carnations are placed through the centre section, small round heads that add punches of saturated colour between the larger white blooms.
The foliage base is wide. Large dark leaves frame the bottom edges. Fern fronds extend outward from the base. Lighter green foliage fills the mid-section. The pot is hidden beneath the greenery.
The Namesake
Every other arrangement in our collection is built around a theme. Asha is all-white. Kyla is a three-colour restriction. Farah is built around tropical ginger. Sami is colour-banded. Each one has a rule that defines it. Sunny has no rule. It has everything.
That's why it carries the shop's name. Sunny Florist Bali is a one-person operation building arrangements from whatever the Bali flower market has on any given morning. The best days at the market are the days when everything is available. Good heliconia, fresh lilies, thick-stemmed orchids, gerberas with firm centres, anthuriums with no blemishes. On those days I build a Sunny. It's the arrangement that shows what I can do when nothing is limited.

"People ask me why I don't use carnations in more arrangements. The answer is that most people think carnations are cheap flowers. Supermarket flowers. Filler. But in Sunny they do something that no other flower in the arrangement can do. The carnations are the only flower with a fully saturated red that's small enough to sit between the larger blooms without competing. A red rose would be too big at that position. A red anthurium would be too flat. The carnation heads are round, compact, and the red is deep and even. They add colour at the scale of a punctuation mark rather than a sentence. I put them in specifically because they're underestimated. They do a job that costs four times as much if you try to achieve the same effect with another flower."
Eight Flower Types, One Arrangement
Building with eight or nine flower types in one pot is harder than building with three or four. Every flower has a different stem thickness, a different head weight, a different opening timeline, and a different water demand. The heliconia stems are thick and rigid and will outlast everything else by a week. The lily opens progressively and changes the shape of the arrangement over three days. The orchids trail and need to hang at an angle or they lose their cascade. The gerberas are top-heavy and lean if the foam placement isn't deep enough. The anthurium spathe is flat and catches light differently from every other surface in the arrangement.
The challenge is making all of that look like one thing instead of nine things sharing a pot. The triangular structure does most of the work. Heliconia defines the top. Foliage defines the base. Everything else fills the space between those two boundaries. The white flowers (lily, gerbera, rose, chrysanthemum) form the core. The colour flowers (anthurium, orchid, carnation) are placed at intervals around that white centre so the eye moves between colour points without landing on a cluster of one type.
Heliconia in a Mixed Arrangement
We sell heliconia as a standalone product in our Bunch of Heliconias. That product uses the hanging/pendulous variety. Sunny uses the upright lobster-claw type, which points upward and works as a peak element. The two varieties look and behave differently. Hanging heliconia drapes. Upright heliconia stands. In Sunny, the upright stems provide the vertical axis that the rest of the arrangement builds around.
The heliconia bracts will still be standing long after the lily petals have dropped and the rose has softened. Along with the anthurium, the heliconia forms the long-lasting skeleton of the arrangement. On day seven, when the softer flowers have finished, the heliconia, anthurium, orchids, and carnations will still be holding. Sunny gets a second life as a tropical-and-colour arrangement once the whites are removed.

"I named it Sunny because it was the first arrangement I built when I opened the shop in 2013. I had been buying stock for a week, testing what the Denpasar market could supply reliably, and on the morning I opened I had everything. Good heliconia, fresh lilies, orchids, gerberas, anthuriums, carnations. I built the biggest arrangement I could with all of it and put it in the window. A woman walked in within the first hour and asked for 'that one.' That was my second ever sale. Mia was the first. I called the arrangement Sunny because that's what the shop was called and because it felt like everything the shop could be, all in one pot. It's still the arrangement I build when I want to show what a Bali florist can do with a full market day."
Who Sends Sunny
People who want the biggest visual impact at the $47 price point. Sunny ranks fortieth Bali-wide, which is lower than Marley (the sampler) or Alesha (the colour-anchor arrangement). The lower ranking reflects the fact that Sunny doesn't have a single defining feature that makes it easy to describe. It has everything. And "everything" is harder to sell in a thumbnail than "all-white" or "pink roses."

Care
Top up the foam with water daily. The lily will open over three days and will need its stamens removed as each bloom opens to prevent pollen staining. The gerberas and rose will peak by day three. The heliconia, anthurium, orchids, and carnations will hold through day seven and beyond. Remove spent flowers as they finish. The arrangement transitions naturally from a full mixed display to a tropical colour display as the softer whites drop out.
