Description
Sienna splits warm and cool down the middle of a single arrangement. Yellow chrysanthemums fill the lower half in a dense cluster. Lavender chrysanthemums rise through the upper half. Red roses and purple orchids sit between the two. Tuberose stems climb through the centre with buds that will open into the strongest fragrance of any flower in the collection. Our eighth most popular product across all of Bali and fifth in Kuta.
$47.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Seminyak, Canggu, Legian, Ubud, Denpasar and Nusa Dua. Arrives in a ceramic pot, ready to display.
What's Inside
At the top, tall blade-like green leaves and thin reed stalks set the height. Two or three tuberose stems rise through the centre, each carrying a column of pale green buds clustered tightly along the stem. These buds open from the bottom upward over the coming days, releasing fragrance as they go.
Below the tuberose, lavender spray chrysanthemums fill the upper section. These are a soft lilac-mauve with lighter centres, a colour that does not appear in any other arrangement in the collection. They cluster around the tuberose stems and spread outward across the upper body. Large dark green broad leaves frame behind them.
The lower half belongs to yellow spray chrysanthemums. A dense mass of bright yellow daisy-type heads packed tight, ten or more blooms with darker yellow centres. This is the warmest section of the arrangement. Two or three deep red roses sit on either side of the yellow cluster, partially open, with enough colour weight to hold their own against the yellow. Purple dendrobium orchid sprays appear on both sides at the lower edges, trailing outward with multiple blooms per spray.
The base uses asparagus fern, a fine feathery foliage that is lighter and softer than the broad tropical leaves used in most of our arrangements. Broad dark green leaves wrap the edges. The dark brown ceramic pot sits beneath.
Warm Below, Cool Above
Most mixed arrangements scatter their colours evenly. A pink here, a yellow there, a white somewhere else. Sienna does the opposite. It stacks its colours by temperature. The warm tones, yellow chrysanthemums and red roses, hold the lower half. The cool tones, lavender chrysanthemums and purple orchids, hold the upper half. The arrangement has a distinct equator where warm ends and cool begins.
That split creates depth. Warm colours advance toward the viewer. Cool colours recede. When warm sits below and cool sits above, the lower section pushes forward and the upper section pulls back, and the arrangement reads as deeper front-to-back than it physically is. Place Sienna on a table and the yellow front feels close while the lavender top feels further away. The pot is the same depth at every point. The colour temperature creates the illusion of more dimension.
In Sami, colour is banded horizontally in defined stripes. In Alesha, a white anchor sits at the centre and other colours orbit it. In Ivy, yellow runs the whole arrangement. Sienna is the only product that splits warm and cool into separate halves of the same composition. That approach is rarer in commercial floristry because it requires two full sets of matching flowers rather than a single mixed palette.
"Sienna is the arrangement that made me understand colour temperature. I built the first version with the lavender at the bottom and the yellow at the top. It looked wrong but I could not explain why. The arrangement felt like it was leaning backward even though it was perfectly straight. A guest at the resort where I was working, an interior designer from Melbourne, saw it and said 'your warm colours are in the wrong place.' She explained that warm advances and cool recedes. I flipped the colours that afternoon. Lavender up, yellow down. The same flowers, the same pot, and it suddenly looked three-dimensional. I have built Sienna this way ever since. That was maybe 2011, two years before I opened the shop, and it changed how I think about every arrangement."
Tuberose
The tuberose stems in Sienna are the fragrance source. No other flower in any of our arrangements produces a scent as strong as tuberose. Lily is fragrant. Roses carry a mild scent. Tuberose fills a room. The fragrance is heavy, sweet, and warm, and it intensifies in the evening because tuberose evolved to attract night-flying pollinators. By the second or third evening after delivery, the buds that have opened along the stem will be producing enough scent to reach across a living room.
The buds open from the bottom of the stem upward, similar to gladiolus in Ivy. But where gladiolus offers a visual change as it opens, tuberose offers a scent change. Each new bud that opens adds another layer of fragrance. The arrangement smells stronger on day three than on day one. By day five the full stem may be open and the scent at its peak.
Tuberose extract is one of the most expensive raw materials in the perfume industry. Jasmine and rose are more commonly discussed, but tuberose absolute can cost more per kilogram than either. The flower is native to Mexico and was brought to Southeast Asia centuries ago. It grows well in Bali's climate and the stems I use come from a grower in the Tabanan area west of Denpasar.
"I tell customers that Sienna is two gifts. The first gift is what they see. The second gift is what they smell that evening. Most people order flowers for the visual impact and never think about fragrance. Sienna delivers both. The tuberose scent at night is so strong that some recipients message me to ask what flower is producing it. They can smell it from another room. One customer in Kuta told me she thought her neighbour was burning a very expensive candle until she realised it was the flowers on her dining table. That story is why I always include tuberose when I can source good stems. It turns a visual gift into a sensory experience that keeps going after the lights go off."
Who Sends Sienna
The eighth most popular product. That ranking puts Sienna in the top ten across all of Bali, which is notable for an arrangement that has no roses as its lead flower. The yellow-and-lavender palette reads as cheerful and gentle. It suits birthdays, thank you gifts, get well wishes, and housewarming. It works as a self-purchase for people who want fragrance in their home.
Fifth in Kuta, where the customer base mixes tourists, short-stay visitors, and local residents. Kuta is loud and busy. An arrangement with tuberose fragrance gives the recipient something quiet and private. The scent fills the room after the door closes and the street noise drops away. That contrast between the Kuta energy outside and the tuberose fragrance inside is probably why it sells well there.
For the yellow-forward arrangement without tuberose, see Ivy. For the full-spectrum colour arrangement, try Sunny or Paloma. Browse the full Balinese Arrangements or see our bouquets and gift range.
Care
Top up the foam with water daily. The yellow chrysanthemums and lavender chrysanthemums hold through day five or six. The roses peak by day three. The orchids continue past day seven. The tuberose stems produce fragrance for four to six days as the buds open. Once all buds have opened, the fragrance fades and the stems can be removed. The chrysanthemums and orchids will continue as a yellow-and-purple display.
