You are sending flowers to Bali. Nice. But flowers get glanced at and placed on a table. Flowers with a bottle of red wine get opened immediately. The wine changes the reaction from "that's sweet" to "pour me a glass." A woman in Singapore added this to a dozen red roses for her husband's room at the Sofitel. He skipped the conference dinner and spent the evening on the balcony. $34.95 as an add-on to any flower order. Order now.

Description

One bottle of red wine in dark glass. No printed label. The bottle arrives alongside whichever flower product you add it to. This is an add-on, not a standalone order. It pairs with any product in the catalogue and turns a flower delivery into a flower-and-wine delivery, which changes the way the recipient reacts to the whole gift.

$34.95 USD. Same day delivery as an add-on with any flower order across all Bali locations including Sanur, Jimbaran, Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud. Red wine, dark glass bottle, add-on product.

What Arrives

A full-sized 750ml bottle of red wine. Dark glass, almost black, standard Bordeaux shape with a foil cap. The wine is a reliable Indonesian or imported table red selected for drinkability. I do not print a label because the bottle changes depending on stock and supplier availability, and I would rather send a consistently good wine than guarantee a specific brand that might be out of stock on the day you need it. The dark glass keeps the wine stable during delivery across Bali's heat.

The bottle arrives with your flower order. Kadek delivers both together. If the flowers are going to a restaurant, the wine sits beside the vase on the table. If the flowers are going to a hotel room or villa, the wine goes on the bedside table or kitchen bench next to the arrangement. The two items arrive as one gift.

The Wednesday Call From Singapore

A woman rang the shop on a Wednesday afternoon. Calling from Singapore. Her husband was in Bali for a five-day conference at Sofitel Nusa Dua and she wanted to send flowers to his room for their anniversary. She had already picked the 12 Red Roses and 3 Calla Lilies. Good choice. Then she paused and asked if we sold wine.

I told her about the red wine add-on. She went quiet for a few seconds. "That changes it from a sweet gesture to a proper evening," she said. She added the wine. Kadek delivered to the Sofitel at 4pm. The concierge placed the roses and the bottle in the room before her husband returned from his afternoon session. He called her from the room balcony that evening. She told me about it in a follow-up WhatsApp the next day. She said he had the wine open within ten minutes of walking in and spent the rest of the evening on the balcony instead of going to the conference dinner. She wrote: "Best $80 I have spent this year." The roses were $45. The wine was $34.95. She was right about the maths.

I noticed something after about a year of selling this product. Flowers on their own get photographed. Flowers with wine get opened. The recipient reacts differently because the gift is saying two things at once. The flowers say "I'm thinking about you." The wine says "stop what you're doing and enjoy this right now." Flowers alone can sit on a table and be appreciated later. Wine creates an immediate moment. The recipient opens the bottle, pours a glass, sits down. The flowers become the backdrop to that. I track what gets reordered and the wine add-on has the highest repeat rate of any extra in the shop. People who add wine once add wine again.

Why Red and Not White

Eight degrees south of the equator. Temperatures between 27 and 33 degrees year round with humidity above 75 percent most of the year. White wine and rosé need to be cold on arrival. Red wine does not. A bottle of white wine that spends forty minutes in a delivery vehicle between the shop and Uluwatu arrives warm. That is a bad gift. A warm white wine tells the recipient the sender did not think about how it would arrive. Red wine at room temperature in Bali is red wine doing what red wine does everywhere. It needs no ice, no rush to the fridge, no apology.

I tested white wine in the first year. Customers in Denpasar and Kerobokan who ordered white wine for villa deliveries were fine because the drive was ten or fifteen minutes. Customers ordering white wine for delivery to Tabanan or Gianyar were not fine. Forty-five minutes in the back of the vehicle and the wine arrived at drinking temperature for soup. I dropped white wine from the catalogue in 2015 and have not brought it back.

Ay Ayu Running Sunny Florist Bali since 2013

When I first opened the shop on Jl. Camplung Tanduk in 2013, I only sold flowers. I did not sell wine, chocolates, teddy bears, candles, or anything else. Flowers and nothing else. Within the first three months I started getting WhatsApp messages asking "can you add a bottle of wine to the order?" I kept saying no. By the fourth month I realised I was losing orders because people would find a competitor who could do both. So I found a supplier. Red wine only because of the heat. I remember the first wine add-on I delivered. It was a bottle of Shiraz going with a dozen red roses to a villa in Legian. The customer was from Manchester. He said "red wine and red roses, she'll think I planned this." He had not planned it. He added the wine at checkout five minutes before I confirmed the order. But the combination looked deliberate. That is what this product does. It makes the whole delivery look more considered than it actually was.

Who Adds This

Anniversary senders. Partners ordering from overseas who want the delivery to feel like an event, not a gesture. Couples celebrating at villas in Pererenan and Berawa where the evening plan is staying in. Birthday senders who know the recipient drinks wine. Hotel room surprises at resorts in Nusa Dua and Benoa where the combination of flowers and wine on the desk when the guest walks in creates the kind of reaction that gets forwarded to the group chat. Apology gifts where the sender needs the recipient to actually sit down with the gesture instead of glancing at it and moving on. Valentine's Day orders where the evening is the point. Self-orders from people already in Bali who want flowers and wine delivered to their own villa for a night in. The add-on works with every product in the collection but the most popular combinations are red roses, the arrangement collection, and anything in the gifts range.
