What Arrives

A full-sized 750ml bottle of red wine. Dark glass, almost black, standard Bordeaux shape with a foil cap. The wine is a reliable Indonesian or imported table red selected for drinkability. I do not print a label because the bottle changes depending on stock and supplier availability, and I would rather send a consistently good wine than guarantee a specific brand that might be out of stock on the day you need it. The dark glass keeps the wine stable during delivery across Bali's heat.

The bottle arrives with your flower order. Kadek delivers both together. If the flowers are going to a restaurant, the wine sits beside the vase on the table. If the flowers are going to a hotel room or villa, the wine goes on the bedside table or kitchen bench next to the arrangement. The two items arrive as one gift.

The Wednesday Call From Singapore

A woman rang the shop on a Wednesday afternoon. Calling from Singapore. Her husband was in Bali for a five-day conference at Sofitel Nusa Dua and she wanted to send flowers to his room for their anniversary. She had already picked the 12 Red Roses and 3 Calla Lilies. Good choice. Then she paused and asked if we sold wine.

I told her about the red wine add-on. She went quiet for a few seconds. "That changes it from a sweet gesture to a proper evening," she said. She added the wine. Why Red and Not White

Eight degrees south of the equator. Temperatures between 27 and 33 degrees year round with humidity above 75 percent most of the year. White wine and rosé need to be cold on arrival. Red wine does not. A bottle of white wine that spends forty minutes in a delivery vehicle between the shop and Uluwatu arrives warm. That is a bad gift. A warm white wine tells the recipient the sender did not think about how it would arrive. Red wine at room temperature in Bali is red wine doing what red wine does everywhere. It needs no ice, no rush to the fridge, no apology.

I tested white wine in the first year. Customers in Denpasar and Kerobokan who ordered white wine for villa deliveries were fine because the drive was ten or fifteen minutes. Customers ordering white wine for delivery to Tabanan or Gianyar were not fine. Forty-five minutes in the back of the vehicle and the wine arrived at drinking temperature for soup. I dropped white wine from the catalogue in 2015 and have not brought it back.
