Description

An amber glass jar with a white label, black text, and vanilla soy wax inside. Two hundred grams of hand-poured candle made by artisans here in Bali from all-natural soy. The label carries a message. Choose from the pre-written options on the product page or write your own. Most people write their own. The jar is reusable after the wax is gone. Forty-ninth most popular product across all of Bali and the bestselling candle in the collection.

$15.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Sanur, Jimbaran, Denpasar, Kerobokan, Seminyak and Canggu. Organic soy wax, pure vanilla essential oil, customisable label, gift boxed with ribbon.

What Arrives

The candle arrives in an elegant gift box tied with a hand-tied ribbon. Inside, the amber glass jar with its white label facing forward. The label carries whichever message you selected or the custom words you typed in. Under the message, the Sunny Florist Bali branding sits small along the bottom edge. The glass is tinted a warm amber brown that hides the wax level as it burns down, so the candle looks full and presentable for weeks.

The vanilla scent is noticeable when the recipient opens the box. That first hit before the candle is even lit. I get messages about this. People photograph the label, send the photo back to whoever ordered it, and then a second message arrives twenty minutes later once they light it and the room fills.

There are four scents in the candle range: vanilla, coconut, lavender, and frangipani. Vanilla outsells the other three combined. Coconut is second. Lavender third. Frangipani fourth. Vanilla wins because it sits in a category of scent that almost nobody dislikes. The sender does not need to know the recipient's fragrance preferences to pick vanilla and feel confident about it.

The Label Messages

Pre-set options include "I Love You," "Have a fab Bali birthday!," "Wishing you beautiful Bali memories," "Congratulations! Have the most amazing time in Bali," "Just to let you know I am thinking of you," "Beautiful gift for a beautiful soul," "Hugs, kisses, and Bali birthday wishes," and "You light up my life." Or type your own. Custom messages are the most popular choice by a wide margin. Inside jokes, pet names, song lyrics, dates that mean something. One woman had us print "Remember Lisbon?" and nothing else. I did not ask.

The label is printed on matte white stock and applied to the jar before packaging. Custom messages go through the same print process as the pre-set options. No difference in quality. No handwritten sticker. A proper label that looks like the candle was manufactured specifically for the recipient.

Eight Candles to Berawa

A woman in London messaged me on WhatsApp at 11pm her time. Six in the morning here in Bali. Her best friend was arriving in Berawa the following afternoon for a hen weekend. Eight women. She wanted eight vanilla candles, each with a different label. Each label was a different inside joke between the bride and that specific friend. "Madrid 2019 and the lost passport." "You still owe me a mojito." "Third time's the charm, babe." Things like that.

We went back and forth on WhatsApp for thirty minutes getting the messages right. She swapped two of the messages between friends. Changed the punctuation on one. Added an exclamation mark, removed it, put it back. I told her to stop overthinking it. She laughed and sent the final list. Wayan printed the labels that morning. All eight candles were boxed, ribboned, and delivered to the villa by 2pm. The bride sent me a photo at 9pm that night. All eight candles lit around a table on the pool deck, eight women with wine glasses, and a message that said "she cried at every single one."

People ask me why we use soy wax instead of paraffin when paraffin is cheaper. Two reasons and both matter more in Bali than they would in London or Tokyo. First, soy burns at a lower temperature. Lower burn temperature means the wax melts into a pool more slowly and the candle lasts longer. Two hundred grams of soy gives you roughly thirty-five hours of burn time. The same weight in paraffin gives you maybe twenty-five because it burns hotter and faster. In a place where the air temperature already runs above thirty degrees most days, you want a wax that does not race to liquid. Second, paraffin is petroleum. It produces soot. Black residue on the inside of the jar, on the ceiling above it, on the walls if the candle burns in a small bathroom. Soy produces almost none. Our candle maker tested both side by side in a villa bathroom in Umalas for a full month. The paraffin candle left a grey film on the white tiles above the shelf. The soy candle left nothing. That test ended the conversation.

Why Vanilla Outsells Everything

Coconut smells tropical. Frangipani smells floral. Lavender smells herbal. All three carry strong associations and strong opinions. Vanilla occupies a different category. Research on scent preference consistently shows vanilla among the top two or three most universally liked scents across cultures, ages, and genders. The reason is biological. Vanilla activates the same comfort-processing areas of the brain that respond to warm food and familiar environments. It reads as safe. Not boring. Safe. For a gift where the sender cannot smell the product before it arrives and cannot know the recipient's scent preferences with certainty, safe is exactly the right choice. Coconut might be perfect. Coconut might also be too sweet for someone who does not like tropical scents. Vanilla has no such risk.

The essential oil we use is pure vanilla extract, not synthetic vanillin. The difference is in the dry-down. Synthetic vanilla hits hard and fades quickly to a flat sweetness. Pure vanilla extract has layers that emerge as the candle burns. A warm opening, a slightly woody middle once the top notes have filled the room, and a base that lingers after you blow it out. The linger is what people notice. They light the candle for an hour, extinguish it, leave the room, come back, and the vanilla is still sitting in the air. Synthetic does not do that.

I notice something every time someone orders a candle on the website. They spend maybe ten seconds choosing vanilla from the four scents. Then four or five minutes on the label message. They edit it. Rewrite it. Check the character count. Go back and change one word. The candle is the container. The message is the gift. A $15 candle with "Remember Lisbon?" on the label carries more emotional weight than a $50 arrangement with a generic card. The person receiving it does not think about the vanilla or the soy wax or the burn time. They think about who wrote that line and why. I have sold this candle to birthday senders, anniversary couples, bridesmaids, parents, best friends, and at least one person who typed "I forgive you" and left it at that. The label is the product. The candle is just the thing it arrives on.

Where This Goes

Villa welcome gifts. A guest checks into an Airbnb in Batu Bolong or a hotel in Nusa Dua and this is waiting on the bedside table. Hen weekends in Berawa and Canggu where the organiser wants something personal for every guest. Birthday add-ons paired with flowers, a bottle of wine, or a teddy bear from the gifts collection. The Teddy and Candle Package bundles this with a plush bear. The Bali Bliss packages in pink, yellow, and blue pair candles with flowers and extras for a full gift box. Stand-alone "thinking of you" orders from people who want to send something small and personal that is not flowers. Apology gifts where the sender needs the message on the label to do the talking.

We deliver candles to every area covered by our flower delivery. Ubud, Uluwatu, Legian, Kuta, Pecatu, Tabanan. Seven days a week.

Why Candles Exist in a Flower Shop

I opened the shop on Jl. Camplung Tanduk in Seminyak in 2013 selling only flowers. By 2016, enough customers had asked "do you have anything else?" that I started looking. The question usually came from people who wanted to send a small gift alongside flowers or who wanted something for a recipient who was not a flowers person. I found a candle maker in the Ubud area who was hand-pouring soy candles for local spas and boutique hotels. We tested four scents over three months with customers before settling on the four we carry now. Vanilla was the clear winner from week one. It has not moved from the top spot since.

The custom label idea came from a customer who asked if she could write her own message instead of choosing from the list. She wanted "Happy 40th, you old thing" and none of the pre-set options covered that territory. I said yes, Wayan printed it that afternoon, and we have offered custom labels ever since. About sixty percent of candle orders now use a custom message. The remaining forty percent choose from the pre-set list, with "I Love You" and "Hugs, kisses, and Bali birthday wishes" the two most popular.

Browse the full candle collection or the complete gift range. For something bigger, the hamper collection includes candles alongside flowers, chocolates, wine, and spa products. The coconut, lavender, and frangipani scents are all the same price with the same custom label option.

Care

Trim the wick to about five millimetres before each burn. A long wick produces a larger flame that burns the wax too quickly and creates more soot than necessary. On the first burn, let the candle stay lit until the entire surface has melted to the edges of the jar. This takes roughly ninety minutes for this size. Blowing it out before the wax pool reaches the glass creates a memory ring and the candle will tunnel from that point forward, wasting the wax around the edges. Store the candle away from direct sunlight. Bali's heat will not melt soy wax at room temperature but prolonged sun through a window can soften the surface and cause the label to lift. Keep the lid on when not burning to preserve the scent between uses.

Delivery

Same day delivery across all areas of Bali. Candles travel well because the gift box protects the jar completely. No temperature sensitivity during a normal Bali delivery route. For hotel and resort deliveries, include the guest name, room number if available, and the resort name. For villa deliveries, include the villa name and address with any access notes. Questions?
