Description
Twenty-four red roses set in floral foam inside a black box with white polka dots. The roses rise at varying heights in a full dome that spreads wider than the box on all sides. Green rose foliage fills the gaps between stems and sits around the perimeter. No other flower types. No wrapping. No ribbon. The arrangement arrives ready to display with nothing for the recipient to do except find a surface and put it down.
$40.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Jimbaran, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud. Twenty-four red roses in a polka dot box, foam-set arrangement.
What Makes Twenty-Four Different
We sell a twelve red roses arrangement in the same polka dot box for $42. Same foam construction, same box style, half the roses. The twelve-rose version leaves space between each bloom. You can see individual stems, individual leaves, individual roses. The character of that product is clean and considered.
This one is different. Twenty-four stems packed into the same format means the roses sit shoulder to shoulder. The dome is denser, taller, and the box almost disappears behind them. When I build this product I start from the centre and work outward in tighter concentric circles than the twelve-rose version demands. The spacing between each insertion point in the foam drops from roughly three centimetres to less than two. That matters because each hole weakens the foam around it. Twenty-four holes close together means the structural planning has to happen before the first stem goes in. I draw a mental grid. Centre four, then a ring of eight, then the outer ring of twelve at the edges. If the spacing is off by even a centimetre on the inner ring, the outer ring runs out of room and the last three or four roses end up squeezed rather than placed.
The result is a product that reads as abundance. Twelve red roses in a box say "I thought of you." Twenty-four say "I want you to stop what you are doing and notice."
The thing about twenty-four red roses in one box is that the box stops being the container. It becomes the base. At twelve, you still see the polka dot pattern on all four sides. At twenty-four the roses spill over the edges and the black box becomes a pedestal. I remember the first time I built one and stepped back from the bench. Twelve felt like a gift. Twenty-four felt like a centrepiece. The roses at the outside lean slightly outward because there is no room left to stand straight, and that lean is what creates the dome. I do not trim it back. That natural spreading is what gives the arrangement its shape. Trying to force twenty-four roses into a tight vertical column would fight the stems and the blooms would bruise where they press together. Let them lean. The dome is the design.
Anniversary at La Lucciola
A couple from Denpasar booked a beachfront table at La Lucciola in Seminyak for their tenth anniversary last month. La Lucciola faces the ocean on Jl. Kayu Aya, right at the beach end past the Petitenget temple. Sunset tables go fast. The husband called me three days before and said he wanted red roses on the table when they arrived. He said twelve. I asked if the table was inside or beachfront. Beachfront. La Lucciola's outdoor tables are wide. I told him twelve roses in a box would look like a side decoration at a table that size. He went with twenty-four.
Kadek delivered at 5:45pm, forty-five minutes before the reservation. The restaurant staff placed the box at the centre of the table. When the couple arrived and the wife saw the roses against the sunset behind them, she stood there for about five seconds before sitting down. The husband told me later she asked him "did you tell them it was our anniversary or did you just order that many?" He said he just ordered that many. She did not need to know about the phone call where I talked him into doubling.
Sourcing Twenty-Four Consistent Roses
Twelve red roses from the same grower batch will look uniform. The colour matches. The opening stage is close. At the market I can pick twelve from one bucket and the variation between the best and the weakest stem is small enough that it disappears inside the arrangement.
Twenty-four is harder. One bucket rarely holds twenty-four roses at the same quality level. The last few in any bucket tend to be the stems the earlier buyers passed over. Smaller heads. Stems that curve. A petal edge that is slightly dry. If I pull all twenty-four from one bucket, the bottom of the quality range shows up in the finished arrangement because there is nowhere to hide a weak rose when every bloom is touching the one next to it.
So I pull from two buckets. The best fourteen or fifteen from one, the best nine or ten from another. Both from the same grower if possible so the red matches. Different growers grow different reds. One leans toward scarlet, another toward crimson, a third toward a darker burgundy. Mixing growers in a twenty-four-count arrangement creates a patchwork effect that looks careless instead of deliberate. Getting the colour consistent across all twenty-four stems is the part of this product that takes the most time and the part the customer never sees.
I have been watching our order data for years and the pattern around twenty-four red roses is consistent. The twelve-rose version sells steadily all year. Birthdays, Valentine's, Tuesday afternoons, no particular spike. The twenty-four-rose version sells in bursts. Anniversary month. The week before Valentine's Day. The day after an argument. That last one shows up more than people might expect. I can usually tell which orders are apology orders because they come in at odd hours and the message card instructions take a while. The sender rewrites the card text two or three times before confirming. Someone ordering a birthday gift sends the card message in under a minute. Someone ordering an apology gift agonises over every word. Twenty-four roses absorb the weight of that kind of message in a way twelve cannot.
The Phone Call from Singapore
A woman rang the shop on a Wednesday afternoon. She was calling from Singapore. Her husband was on a five-day golf trip with three friends. They had a villa in Nusa Dua. His birthday fell on the Thursday. She wanted red roses delivered to the villa before breakfast.
She started by saying twelve. I asked what the villa looked like. She said it was a big four-bedroom place with a pool and an open-plan living area. I said twelve roses in a box on a large dining table would look like someone left something behind. She laughed and said she had been thinking the same thing but was not sure if she was overthinking it. She was not overthinking it. Scale matters. A small gift in a big room shrinks. She switched to twenty-four. I told her Kadek would deliver at 7am before the group's tee time. She said the card should say "Happy birthday, come home soon, the kids miss you." Then she paused and added "actually just write the first two parts."
Kadek delivered at 6:55am. The villa host placed it on the outdoor dining table by the pool. The husband sent me a photo that afternoon from the golf course with the message "my wife is the best" and a thumbs-up. The villa host told Kadek later that week that the roses were still going when the group checked out on Sunday.
Who Orders This
Anniversary senders who want the impact that twelve roses cannot deliver. Partners ordering from overseas to Kerobokan villas, Berawa holiday houses, and resort rooms across Nusa Dua and Jimbaran. Birthday deliveries where the sender wants roses that fill a table, not just sit on one. Valentine's Day orders from people who want the classic red rose gesture turned up to a level the recipient photographs and posts. Apology senders who know twelve will not carry the weight of what they need to say. Restaurant pre-delivery to Seminyak and Canggu venues where the table is wide enough for twenty-four roses to sit at the centre without crowding the plates. Proposal setups at Uluwatu cliff villas and Ubud rice terrace restaurants. International senders from Singapore, Japan, the UK, and the US who want the biggest red rose arrangement in the collection without moving to a different flower.
I added the twenty-four count in 2015 because customers kept asking if they could double the twelve-rose box. The first two years of the shop I only sold twelve. By the third year I had heard "can I get more?" enough times that the product created itself. The format stayed the same. Same box, same foam, same polka dot pattern. The roses doubled. For the twelve-rose version at $42, see the 12 Red Roses Arrangement. For twenty-four roses as a hand-tied bunch instead of a box, see the 24 Red Roses Bunch. Care
The roses arrive set in soaked floral foam inside the box. The foam holds water and feeds each stem. Add a few tablespoons of water to the foam every second day. Do not flood it. The foam should feel damp to the touch, not swimming. If water pools visibly at the base of the box, tip the excess out gently because standing water breeds bacteria that will shorten the vase life by days. Keep the box away from direct sunlight, air conditioning vents blowing directly onto the blooms, and fruit bowls. Fruit releases ethylene gas as it ripens and ethylene accelerates petal drop in roses. A bowl of bananas on the same table can cost two days of bloom time. The roses will hold five to seven days in an air-conditioned room. Longer if the foam stays consistently damp and the room stays cool.
