Description
Twelve red roses set in a black polka dot box. No vase to find. No stems to trim. No arranging required. The box arrives ready to place on a table, a desk, a bedside, a counter. This is the same dozen red roses as our hand-tied bunch, but set in floral foam inside a decorative box so the recipient has nothing to do except decide where to put them. Our thirty-third most popular product across Bali and sixth in Batu Bolong.
$42.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Ubud, Denpasar and Nusa Dua. Arrives set in box, ready to display.
What Arrives
A square black box covered in white polka dots, about the size of a large coffee mug measured across. Inside the box sits a block of soaked floral foam. Twelve red roses are set into the foam at slightly different heights so the blooms create a soft dome shape above the box. Green foliage fills the gaps between roses, broad glossy leaves that cover the foam completely so the mechanics are invisible. Some roses face upward, some angle outward, some tilt slightly forward. The result is a compact arrangement that shows roses from every direction rather than just the top.
The roses are deep red and partially open, petals layered in that classic cupped shape with the centres just starting to show. A few have visible water droplets on the petals from conditioning. The red against the black and white box creates a graphic, punchy look that is closer to a designed gift than a traditional flower arrangement.
The Box Changes Everything
We sell twelve red roses as a bunch for $38. Same roses. Same deep red. Same foliage mixed through. The bunch arrives as stems tied together and the recipient needs a vase to put them in. This arrangement arrives in the box, set in foam, and the recipient does not need anything at all.
That four dollar difference buys three things. First, the decorative box itself. Second, the floral foam that holds every stem exactly where it was placed. Third, the fact that the recipient has zero work to do. In a villa that might not have a vase, in a hotel room where the options are a drinking glass or a bathroom cup, in an office where nobody keeps flower vessels at their desk, the box solves all of it. The flowers arrive as a finished object.
The other thing the box changes is personality. A hand-tied bunch of red roses reads as classic romance. These same twelve red roses sitting in a black and white polka dot box read differently. The dots make it playful. It shifts the arrangement from serious declaration to something with a bit of fun in it. The roses still say what red roses always say, but the packaging says it with a grin.
When I first added this product, a customer asked Ayu why she put serious roses in a fun box. She told him that was the whole point. Red roses are the most loaded flower in the world. Everyone knows what they mean. That weight can feel heavy for people who want to send something romantic without it feeling like a marriage proposal. The polka dot box lightens it. It says the sender has a sense of humour about the gesture. Since 2013 Ayu has watched the orders come through and the people choosing this over the plain bunch are almost always sending to someone they already have a relationship with. The early-stage "I like you" senders choose the bunch because it feels traditional and safe. The established couples choose the box because they can afford to be playful. The box gives permission to be romantic without being solemn about it.
Sixth in Batu Bolong
Batu Bolong is the stretch of Canggu closest to the beach. Cafes, surf shops, co-working spaces, short-term villa rentals. The demographic is younger and more transient than the rest of the Canggu area. People living or staying in Batu Bolong are less likely to own a vase than almost any other area we deliver to. The villa is rented. The kitchen has the basics. There is no flower vessel sitting in a cupboard waiting to be used.
This arrangement ranks sixth in Batu Bolong specifically because the box removes the vase problem entirely. It is also why it outperforms the twelve red rose bunch in this area relative to the rest of Bali. Bali-wide, the bunch outsells this arrangement by a wide margin. In Batu Bolong, the gap narrows because the people ordering know where it is going and know that a vase is not guaranteed.
Foam Keeps Roses Still
Most flower deliveries in Bali travel on the back of a motorbike. The delivery driver threads through traffic, takes corners, navigates speed bumps and potholes. A hand-tied bunch in a water wrap can shift and tilt during that ride. The roses arrive fine but the arrangement might need adjusting in the vase.
Foam holds every stem exactly where it was placed. The roses cannot shift, tilt, or rearrange themselves during transport. What the florist builds in the workshop is what the recipient sees when the box arrives. On a fifteen-minute scooter ride across Legian or up the hill to Pererenan, that stability matters. The arrangement arrives looking like the product photo because the foam is doing the structural work that gravity and a vase cannot.
Ayu soaks the foam block for exactly eight minutes before setting any stems. Longer than eight and the foam gets waterlogged and crumbles when you push stems in. Shorter and the centre stays dry, which means the roses in the middle get no water and wilt within a day while the outer ones stay fresh. Eight minutes, fully submerged, then lifted out and placed in the box. She learned the timing through trial and error in the first year of business. The first few boxes she made had foam that was either too wet or too dry and neither version held the roses properly. Now the foam is soaked, the roses go in starting from the centre and working outward, and each stem gets pushed in about three centimetres so it is deep enough to drink but not so deep that it punches through the bottom. That three centimetre depth is something she measures by feel now but measured with a ruler for the first fifty boxes until her hands knew the distance automatically.
Compared to the Other Red Rose Products
The 6 Red Rose Arrangement at $35 uses a terracotta pot and half the roses. Smaller, earthier, more understated. The 12 Red Roses Bunch at $38 gives you the same stem count in a hand-tied format that needs a vase. The Rose Heart at $85 packs twenty-five to thirty roses into a flat heart shape for the biggest romantic gesture in the collection.
This box arrangement sits between the bunch and the heart. More presentation than the bunch, more playful than the heart, and the only one of the four that arrives as a self-contained display piece that needs nothing from the recipient.
Who Orders This
Birthday senders who want red roses without the heavy romance framing. Partners in established relationships where the gesture can afford to be fun. People sending to villas, hotels, and hospitals where a vase is not available. Anniversary orders where the sender wants something between a casual bunch and a grand statement. Corporate thank-you gestures where the polka dots add just enough personality to not look generic.

Care
The foam holds water so the roses drink from the block rather than from a vase. Add a small amount of water to the box every two days to keep the foam damp. The easiest method is to pour slowly into a gap between stems and let the foam absorb. Do not flood the box. A few tablespoons is enough each time. The roses will open further over days two and three and hold through day five or six. Keep the arrangement away from direct sun and air conditioning vents. Both accelerate water loss from the foam faster than the roses can drink.
