Description
One red rose in blue paper. One teddy bear beside it. The smallest flower order we take and one of the most intentional gifts in the collection. When someone sends a single rose they have chosen to send exactly one. Not because the budget was tight. Because one is the right number.
$35.00 USD. Same day delivery, seven days a week, across all Bali locations including Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Ubud, Denpasar and Nusa Dua. Rose arrives wrapped with a teddy bear.
What's Inside
One red rose, fully open, wrapped in bright royal blue tissue paper in a cone presentation. Rose foliage sits inside the wrap around the bloom. The stem is long and visible below the paper. Beside it sits a small tan teddy bear with a brown plaid bow at the neck, the same bear that comes with our 3 Roses + Teddy Bear gift. The blue wrap is specific to this product. The three-rose version comes in green. The blue makes the red of the single rose stand out more sharply because blue and red sit on opposite sides of the colour wheel.
One Rose, Not Three
We sell the 3 Roses + Teddy Bear at $41 and this product at $35. The $6 difference buys two extra roses. Most people would assume the three-rose version is the better deal. But a third of the orders for rose-and-bear gifts come to this page, not that one. The single rose holds its own because it communicates something different.
Three roses say "thinking of you." One rose says "you." The entire message lands on a single bloom. There's nothing else to look at, nothing else to count, nothing to dilute the point. A dozen roses are impressive. Three are sweet. One is direct. The people who choose one rose over three have already decided that more would say less.
"People tell me one rose is not enough to send. I disagree. When you send twelve roses, the person receiving them thinks about the roses. They admire the bouquet, they find a vase, they arrange them on a table. The flowers are the subject. When you send one rose, the person receiving it thinks about the sender. There's nothing to arrange, nothing to fuss over. Just a single bloom and a question: who sent this and why? That shift in attention from the gift to the giver is exactly what makes a single rose more powerful than people expect. The customers who order this product know that. They're not being cheap. They're being precise."
Choosing the One
Selecting a single rose for this product is the hardest selection job in the shop. When I'm picking six roses for the 6 Red Rose Arrangement, I choose the six best from a bunch and they balance each other. A slightly smaller bloom sits next to a larger one and nobody notices. When I'm picking one rose, that rose is the entire product. There is no second bloom to compensate for a flaw.
The rose has to be at the right opening stage. Too tight and it looks like a bud that hasn't finished growing. Too open and it will peak within a day. The ideal is halfway, petals unfurling with the centre still spiralled, so the recipient watches it open over two or three days. The colour has to be even across every petal. Any streak of lighter red or any brown at an edge disqualifies it. The stem has to be straight and thick enough to hold the bloom upright in the wrap without leaning.
From a bunch of twenty roses, I might find three or four that meet the standard for a single-rose presentation. The rest go into arrangements and bouquets where they work perfectly well alongside other flowers. But only the best of the bunch gets wrapped alone in blue paper, because alone is where every imperfection shows.
"I learned how to pick a single presentation rose from a manager at one of the Ubud resorts. She would inspect every rose that went into a guest room. One rose on the pillow, one rose on the bathroom vanity. She taught me to roll the stem between my fingers and feel for thickness. A thick stem means the plant was healthy and the bloom will hold. Then check the guard petals, the outer ones. If they're curling or soft, the rose is already past its best even if it looks fine from the front. I rejected a rose once that looked perfect and she told me to turn it around. The back had a brown spot the size of a fingernail. She said guests pick up roses. They turn them. They look at every angle. A single rose gets examined in a way that a bouquet never does."
The Blue Wrap
The wrap colour matters more than people realise when there's only one flower inside it. Green paper around a red rose creates a natural, garden look. Blue paper around a red rose creates contrast. Red and blue are complementary opposites. The red pops harder against blue than it does against green, which is why this product uses blue and the three-rose version uses green. Three roses generate their own visual weight and don't need the paper to amplify them. One rose does.
Who Sends 1 Rose + Teddy Bear
Romantic senders lead the orders. Valentine's Day is the peak, but midweek surprise orders run all year. Partners separated by distance, where one person is in Bali and the other is overseas, account for a large share. The single rose says "I'm thinking of you right now" and the bear gives the recipient something to hold while they read the card.
Parents send this to children at school or university in Denpasar. Friends send it as an apology or a "hope you feel better." At $35.00 USD, it sits at the same price as our 6 Red Rose Arrangement, which gives you six roses in a terracotta pot but no bear. The choice between them comes down to whether the recipient values the lasting keepsake or the larger flower display. For the person who will keep the bear on their bedside table for the next two years, the answer is obvious.

Care
Unwrap the rose and place it in a narrow glass or bud vase with fresh water. A single rose in a wide vase tends to lean and lose its presence. A narrow vessel keeps the stem upright and the bloom at eye level. Trim the stem at an angle. Change the water every two days. The rose will peak on day two or three and hold through day four or five. The bear needs nothing.
